Looking for a Palace for a Prince on Selling New York

Former ABC “Bachelor” Prince Lorenzo Borghese arrived on Long Island by helicopter this week to check out society maven Cornelia Guest’s sprawling, $8.9 million estate in Old Westbury, reports The Post’s Jennifer Gould Keil. The dashing prince’s house hunt is being chronicled on the current season of HGTV’s reality series “Selling New York,” with his broker Michele Kleier and her daughters Samantha and Sabrina. The dashing prince and Guest had more in common than their interest in her 11-bedroom mansion on 11 acres. Guest is on the board of the Humane Society of New York, and Borghese is founder of canine grooming brand Royal Treatment, as well as an ambassador for the Human Society of the United States. We also hear Borghese is developing his own reality series, “Prince of Pets,” which he plans to star in and produce.

The Kleiers Have Published their First Book

Michele Kleier and daughters Sabrina Kleier Morgenstern and Samantha Kleier Forbes, stars of HGTV’s “Selling New York,” have just published their first novel, “Hot Property,” which lets readers past the doormen of the city’s most fabulous buildings.

While the book is a novel, it is based on real life and some rather appallingly hilarious behavior by rich and famous New Yorkers. The book stars a real-estate mother/daughter trio who bear striking similarities to the Kleiers. Other characters, however, are tougher to identify.

HarperCollins bought the novel, Michele Kleier tells us, based on one anecdote: A well-known billionaire, about to purchase a $20 million apartment, demanded that a broker give him a sexual favor as part of the transaction.

“Buying real estate brings out the worst in some people and the best in others,” she says. “No one would believe these stories. Only in New York do you find these types of people and apartments.”

John Mehigan is in the News

“Selling New York,” HGTV’s fabulous reality show following high-end brokerages Gumley Haft Kleier and Core has sold! Sources say the program will be back for a second season.

The show’s first season attracted some notable clients like retired advertising executive Larry Plapler, who tells us he loved “Selling New York” so much that he asked Gumley Haft Kleier’s John Mehigan to sell his unusual property. Mehigan has the listing for Plapler’s $1.55 million private island in Paterson, NJ.

As we reported exclusively on Monday, Plapler has rowed to his island most weekends for the past 35 years. It is accessible by rowing or electric-powered boat — no gasoline is allowed on the private lake.

Jonathan Kleier's Film was a Hit at The Tribeca Film Festival

The more the audience enjoyed “I Jack. I Rob. I Sin” — a documentary about Bernie Madoff that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Thursday — the sadder they felt about the sudden death of its director, Jonathan Kleier, who was just 26 in September when he contracted myocarditis, a virus to the heart. So many people came to the screening — a benefit for the Jonathan Kleier ’01 Leader ship Endowment for Horace Mann School — the film had to be shown twice. The title comes from the lyrics of Jay-Z, who was Jonathan’s idol.
